Sedgwick County EMS worker arrested on suspicion of sex crimes

An employee with the Sedgwick County Emergency Medical Service has been arrested on suspicion of sex crimes, authorities said.

The 23-year-old man was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of indecent solicitation of a child, sexual exploitation of a child and electronic solicitation. The arrest is linked to activity that occurred in 2011, said Lt. Kevin Vaughn of the Wichita-Sedgwick County Exploited and Missing Child Unit.

The victim sent nude photos of herself to the suspect, according to a police document on the case. The booking report states she was between 14 and 16 years of age at the time.

The photos were found on the suspect’s phone, according to the police document. Considering other evidence found on the phone, Vaughn said, “there’s a possibility that there’s other victims.”

The suspect was arrested in the 2000 block of East 50th Street South, according to the booking report. He is “a temporary, part-time paramedic” who works on an as-needed basis, county spokeswoman Brittany Clampitt said in an e-mail response to questions.

He has worked for the county since 2010, she said.

“He will not be working until the situation is resolved by authorities,” Clampitt said. “At that time, we will make a determination about his future employment with Sedgwick County.”
