Woman sexually assaulted, burned in attack, Wichita police say
A woman is in critical condition in a Wichita hospital after being sexually assaulted, beaten and burned late Friday, police said.
Fire fighters responded to a report of a fire in Fairmount Park, 1600 N. Gentry, between Hillside and Oliver, at 11:20 p.m. They found a 36-year old woman on fire with severe burns all over her body and lacerations on her head, said Wichita police Sgt. Ron Hunt.
She was taken to the burn unit at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis and admitted in critical condition.
Police have no suspects and are seeking information from the public about the attack.
Hunt encouraged anyone with information to call 911, Crimestoppers at 316-267-2111, or the police investigations section at 268-4181.
“This is extremely violent,” he said. “You can only imagine what she went through in this entire situation.”
