Police: Suspects may be linked to multiple recent store robberies
Authorities have arrested one man who may be linked to numerous recent store robberies, and they’re looking for another.
The suspect, who is in his 20s, was arrested following a brief chase Tuesday night, Lt. James Espinoza said. Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputies found a gun in the suspect’s car after he was taken into custody.
He’s one of two men who match the description of suspects in a robbery and an attempted robbery only a few minutes apart Tuesday night, Espinoza said.
In the first case, two men entered P.S. Liquor at 2010 E. Pawnee shortly after 9 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk. They left without any money.
About six minutes later, two men walked into the Express Mart at 565 S. Market, demanded money and left with a small amount of cash, Espinoza said.
The suspect descriptions in both crimes were similar. The first suspect was a black male between 18 and 20, about 5 feet 8 inches tall. He had a thin build and wore a black and gray Hollister sweatshirt and black and blue basketball shorts. He had a handgun.
The second suspect was a black male in his 20s who had a thin build and weighed 160 to 165 pounds. He wore all black clothing.
Only one person was arrested after the brief pursuit by deputies, Espinoza said. It’s not clear yet whether the second suspect was dropped off somewhere before deputies attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, he said, or fled the car after the chase.
The suspects may be linked to more than one recent store robbery, Espinoza said.
