Police: Puppy stolen at gunpoint

Police are looking for a pit bull puppy stolen at gunpoint earlier this week.

A 16-year-old girl was sitting in her mother’s car with the 2-month-old dog at Ninth and Volutsia on Wednesday night when three people – one of whom she knew – approached and asked about the dog, Lt. James Espinoza said. They then got into a black Monte Carlo, but before leaving one of the trio jumped out of the car, reached into the girl’s vehicle and grabbed the puppy.

They then drove off with the girl in pursuit, Espinoza said. The Monte Carlo stopped at Ninth and Grove and the girl got out of her car and approached.

At that point, one of the trio pointed a handgun at her and ordered her to stop and get away from them. She complied.

The gray puppy is worth about $500, Espinoza said. The victim knows one of the three people and the first name of a second person. Police are looking for them.
