Armed Hutchinson man shot after threatening officer, police say
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Monday afternoon in Hutchinson near 10th and Maple.
Police were alerted shortly before 4:15 p.m. Monday by a 911 caller that an armed man was making threats near the 300 block of East 10th, according to a release issued late Monday by the Hutchinson Police Department. During the call, a man can be heard in the background. Within seconds after police arrived, the man allegedly threatened Sgt. Josh Radloff, a 16-year police officer and patrol sergeant.
Radloff shot and injured Justin L. Matthews, 29.
Shortly afterward, crews from the Emergency Medical Service and the Hutchinson Fire Department arrived and transported Matthews to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was then sent to a hospital in Wichita.
Matthews is listed in stable condition.
While the shooting is being investigated, Radloff has been placed on administrative leave.
