Police: Man uses 40-pound rock to break into house

A 23-year-old man was arrested by Wichita police early Sunday after a 40-pound rock was thrown through a sliding glass door to gain entry into a house.

The incident happened at 4 a.m. in the 1200 block of East Wassall, near Pawnee and Hydraulic.

The rock almost struck a couple in bed near the glass door, police said. The two told police a man broke in to try to get a phone, said Sgt. Ed Brower, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

Wichita police located the suspect in the victims’ backyard and took him into custody under suspicion of burglary and vandalism.
