Man shot four times at triplex in south Wichita

A 21-year-old man was shot four times during what police described as a drug deal gone awry Thursday night in south Wichita.

The shooting was reported shortly after 10:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of East Crowley, Lt. James Espinoza said. That’s just west of Hydraulic and several blocks south of Pawnee.

The incident occurred in a triplex, with the victim going next door afterward to ask for help. Neighbors told police they heard yelling and screaming coming from the victim’s unit and then four gunshots, Espinoza said.

The victim was shot in the back, stomach, leg and groin. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery, Espinoza said.

“There is some gang involvement with one of the possible suspects,” he said.

Officers have only a limited description for the two suspects at this point, Espinoza said.
