Armed man fires at clerk during Dollar General robbery

An armed man fired a shot as a clerk fled toward the back of the store during a robbery of an east Wichita Dollar General Sunday night, police said.

The robber entered the store at 1918 E. 13th St., near I-135, at about 6:30 p.m., pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money from the register, Lt. James Espinoza said. The frightened clerk did not immediately comply with his demands, instead choosing to run from him.

“The suspect fired one round at her as she was running to the back of the store,” Espinoza said.

A handful of customers also took off running, some out the front door and others toward the back of the store. The robber took money from the register and left the store.

The 26-year-old clerk was not injured in the robbery. Espinoza said police have few details on the description of the suspect.
