Son, 36, arrested in stabbing of father, 74, in east Wichita
A 74-year-old man is fighting for his life after being stabbed several times at his son’s house Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The victim’s 36-year-old son was found several blocks away and booked into jail on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, Wichita police Lt. Todd Ojile said Thursday.
The man’s parents go to his house once a week to help him clean house, Ojile said. The father went to help clean the house in the 600 block of South Calhoun first. He was found with several stab and cutting wounds by his wife sometime after 2 p.m. The house is south of Kellogg and west of Rock Road.
He was taken to a local hospital, where he is in “extremely critical” condition, Ojile said.
The son has a history of mental illness, Ojile said. While police have no history of violence at that address or involving the son, he said the mother told of a clash between father and son a year ago that went unreported.
The son was arrested shortly after 3 p.m. at 916 S. Governeour, which is south of Lincoln and west of Rock Road.
