Police arrest screwdriver-wielding man

A 35-year-old man attempted to assault Wichita police officers with a screwdriver Saturday morning at Via Christi Hospital St. Joseph, police said.

Sgt. Brian Sigman said officers were called at 2:55 a.m. Saturday on a trespass call in the 1500 block of South Clifton, near Harry Street.

Sigman said when officers arrived and contacted the man, he pulled a screwdriver from his pocket, wielding it “in an aggressive manner.”

He said the officers used a Taser on the man and arrested him.

“A screwdriver can be used as a dangerous weapon,” Sigman said. “That can kill you, especially if he gets close enough.”

He said neither the officers nor the man were injured during the arrest.

The man was booked on suspicion of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer; and resisting and obstructing an arrest.
