Shooting after argument injures one

An argument led to shots being fired at a house near the Kansas Turnpike early Thursday morning, police said.

An 18-year-old man got into an argument and then a fight with a 39-year-old man at a house in the 2100 block of South Wallace, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. That’s near Mount Vernon and Woodlawn, just northwest of the turnpike.

As the younger man was leaving the house, he fired multiple shots into the house, with numerous people inside, Espinoza said. That included the older man’s 39-year-old wife, a 5-month-old girl, boys ages 4 and 8 and a 16-year-old girl.

Debris caused by one of the bullets injured the 39-year-old man slightly, Espinoza said, and he was treated at the scene by medics.

The suspect, who is a friend of the 39-year-old woman, may be a gang member, Espinoza said. Police are looking for him.
