Woman tells police she poisoned her boyfriend

The woman told Wichita police that she wanted to die — and that she had tried to kill her boyfriend, too.

When officers went to check on the welfare of the woman’s 22-year-old boyfriend Thursday afternoon, Lt. James Espinoza said, he told them “he had been sick the last couple days,” including vomiting blood.

He thought it was simply a virus, but his 30-year-old girlfriend told police that she had put bug poison in his coffee, Espinoza said.

Investigators have gathered enough evidence to develop probable cause, Espinoza said, and the woman will be booked into the Sedgwick County Jail once her mental evaluation at Via Christi Hospital-St. Joseph has concluded.
