Girl injured in what Wichita police think was accidental shooting
A 12-year-old girl was injured in a shooting Friday in southeast Wichita, according to police.
Wichita Police Department spokesman Brad Wright said a call that referenced the shooting came in just before 9 a.m. from near George Washington Boulevard and Hillside.
At the scene, police found a 12-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to her stomach. She was taken to a local hospital and was later listed in serious but stable condition, Wright said.
Police believe the girl was accidentally shot by a 19-year-old man in the 2300 block of South Laura, which is west of Pawnee and Hydraulic. As of Friday afternoon, Wright said the investigation into the shooting was ongoing.
