Gun brandished in Haysville robbery attempt, police say
Haysville police have arrested two men, one of whom reportedly brandished a gun during an attempted armed robbery Tuesday morning.
Haysville Police Chief Jeff Whitfield said in a news release that two men in their early 20s were booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on charges of auto burglary, theft, assault and armed robbery.
According to the release, one of the men, while he tried to elude police following a suspicious-person call, hid in a vehicle parked in the 1600 block of Windrose. When the vehicle owner came outside to confront the man, police said he brandished a firearm and demanded the owner’s keys before he ran off.
Police, according to the news release, believe the gun was stolen. Just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, officers arrested the suspect after a brief foot chase.
Officers had earlier detained another man following a suspicious-person call. Police said there is no lingering danger to the Haysville community.
Officers from the Derby Police Department, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, and Kansas Highway Patrol assisted on the call.
Haysville police ask that anyone who might have had items stolen from a vehicle overnight contact them or call 911 to make a report.
