One person has been taken into police custody following a shooting at a Wichita apartment early Tuesday morning that left one critically injured.

The shooting was reported just before 2 a.m. Tuesday near Boston and Main, a release from the Wichita Police Department said. There, a 36-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his upper body was found and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police soon determined that the shooting happened at an apartment in the 1400 block of South Main, the release said. At the apartment, police found eight people inside and were able to identify the suspected shooter through interviews and a subsequent follow-up investigation.

The 27-year-old man was arrested Wednesday by police on suspicion of aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a felon. He’s since been booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.
