The Wichita Eagle

Police arrested a man and woman after a 4-month-old boy died in southwest Wichita.

A 30-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were taken into custody Friday afternoon, according to a news release from the Wichita Police Department, after emergency responders found the boy, who was not breathing, at a home in the 1700 block of West Esthner Avenue, near West May Street and South Seneca Street.

Sedgwick County Emergency Communications received a report of a baby who was not breathing at the home just before 1 p.m. on Friday, according to the news release. The boy was pronounced dead by emergency responders.

Officers found three other children, all under the age of 4, at the home. Those children were placed into police protective custody, the news release said.

The parents were booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on four counts of aggravated endangerment of a child and child abuse, the news release said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
