A Viola man has been sentenced to serve two life sentences after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two girls last fall.

Rudy Howe, 68, of Viola was accused of inappropriately touching two young girls in October 2025, according to court documents. Both girls told their parents what had happened, and Howe was arrested soon after.

Howe was charged with two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and entered a not-guilty plea in December 2025.

After a jury trial, Howe was found guilty in April 2026. On Thursday, Judge Jeffrey Goering sentenced Howe to two life sentences, one for each count, to be served back to back, a press release from the District Attorney’s Office said. Court documents show that motions made by Howe’s legal representation for a new trial, a shorter-than-standard sentence and acquittal were denied.

“This office is committed to holding those who prey on children accountable for the full measure of their actions,” Chief Assistant District Attorney Jason Roach said in the press release. “Today’s sentence reflects the gravity of Mr. Howe’s conduct and the harm he caused to these two children and their families.”
