A 20-year-old Wichita man has been charged with murder after a car crash over the weekend left a 23-year-old woman dead.

The crash happened around 1:19 a.m. Saturday, May 16 in the 1700 block of East Douglas, a press release from the Wichita Police Department said.

At the scene of the single-vehicle crash, officers found the 20-year-old driver, Cesar Arreola-Garcia, and 23-year-old Ashley Peralta. Both were injured, and Peralta was taken to a hospital where she died.

Arreola-Garcia refused medical attention for his minor injuries, the press release said, and was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail that night.

On Tuesday, Arreola-Garcia was formally charged with one count of unintentional but reckless second-degree murder. He’s due again in court on June 1.
