Wichita man killed in downtown parking lot shooting; suspect arrested
Wichita police are seeking tips after a 24-year-old man was killed in a downtown Wichita shooting.
It happened early Sunday morning around 12:41 a.m. when Wichita police officers near Douglas and Washington heard several gunshots, the department said.
A Drone First Responder was deployed, and officers found a 24-year-old Wichita man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body in a parking lot in the 100 block of North Washington. He was taken to a hospital where he died.
The circumstances leading to the shooting remain under investigation, the department said, adding that the shooting followed a disturbance between the 24-year-old and another person in the parking lot.
In a Sunday afternoon news release, the department said it arrested a 22-year-old Wichita man in connection with the fatal shooting through “the use of Flock technology and the development of multiple leads.”
“Flock technology assisted detectives in tracking investigative leads and helped identify the suspect,” the release said. “Patrol Service Dog Uno also assisted officers at the scene by locating additional evidence connected to the investigation.”
The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for charging consideration; the Eagle does not name people who have been arrested unless they are charged.
Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators at 316-268-4407, or leave a tip anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
