Two Wichita men were arrested Monday for their suspected involvement in an Edwards County assault and rape.

The men, ages 31 and 54, were each arrested on suspicion of one count of attempted first-degree murder in connection with a sexual assault and battery reported at a home in Belpre in December 2025, a press release from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation said. Belpre is a city of less than 100 people about 110 miles west of Wichita and about 55 miles northeast of Dodge City.

Investigators alleged the 31-year-old man strangled and raped an adult victim. The 54-year-old man was allegedly there during the crime, the press release said.

The younger man also was arrested on suspicion of rape, aggravated battery and criminal threat.

Both men were booked into the Sedgwick County Detention Facility. The Wichita Eagle does not name people who have been arrested unless they are formally charged.

The KBI is asking anyone with information related to the attack to contact them at 1-800-KS-CRIME. Anonymous tips can be submitted online at www.kbi.ks.gov/sar
