25-year-old woman in critical condition after shooting in northeast Wichita

A 25-year-old woman is in critical condition and a 29-year-old man is in custody following a shooting in northeast Wichita on Friday morning.

Officers were dispatched to Remington Apartments, which is on 37th Street North between Rock and Webb, shortly after 8 a.m.. Bel Aire police were first to arrive, with Wichita police officers and Sedgwick County sheriff deputies arriving shortly after.

Officers found the woman with a gunshot wound to her upper body, WPD public information officer Kris Gupilan told members of the media, and was taken to a hospital. The man who reported the shooting to 911 was taken into custody and is being interviewed by investigators, Gupilan said.

“Preliminary information indicates that the individuals are known to each other and this is being investigated as a domestic-related incident,” he said.

Gupilan said that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

“If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please know that resources are available,” Gupilan said.
