Runaway teen arrested in connection with Wichita shooting that hurt two
A 16-year-old girl was arrested in Oklahoma in connection with a shooting in Wichita that injured two other teens.
The girl had been reported as a runaway, a news release from the Wichita Police Department says. She fled to Oklahoma after a confrontation in a parking lot ended with an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old shot in the torso.
Investigators said the 18-year-old woman and the 17-year-old girl were in the parking lot, in the 3100 block of North Oliver, around 3 p.m. on Sunday when they were confronted by the 16-year-old.
“A disturbance followed, and the suspect fired a gun, striking both victims,” the WPD news release says.
Both teens were grazed by gunfire and hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Following an investigation, officers learned the girl had traveled to Oklahoma. The Oklahoma City Police Department found her and took her into custody.
“Wichita police are working with Oklahoma City authorities to return the suspect to Wichita,” the press release says. “She will be booked on two counts of aggravated battery.”
