Sale of firearm leads to robbery, shooting in central Wichita. One hurt
A man was hospitalized in serious condition after being shot during a robbery in Delano on Sunday night.
It happened during an arranged sale of a firearm between a 20-year-old man and a boy in the 100 block of North Clarence around 11:40 p.m. Sunday, Wichita Police Public Information Officer Rick Pena wrote in an email to the Eagle.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the two had planned to meet via social media to buy a firearm when they were confronted and robbed by three men, Pena said.
“During the incident, the 20-year-old male produced a knife and was subsequently shot in the leg by one of the suspects,” Pena wrote.
The 20-year-old was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
Two homes nearby were also struck by gunfire. No other injuries were reported.
The suspects, described to be three men in dark clothing and a mask, remain at large, and the investigation is ongoing, Pena said. He added that it is thought to be an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.
