A Wichita Police Department school resource officer at East High School was battered during a fight between two students at the school, police and the school district said Wednesday morning.

The report of an officer in trouble Wednesday morning led to a large police response to the school, police said.

“There was a physical fight at the school that our officer intervened in causing him to be battered. We’re now investigating that fight and have the involved people in custody,” police said. “There is no threat to the school or ongoing incident at the school.”

USD 259 spokesperson Susan Arensman said the “students wouldn’t break it up despite directions from the School Resource Officer.”
