A 21-year-old Wichita man has been arrested in the shooting early Saturday that left a man critically injured, Wichita police said.

EMS took the victim, who was shot in the upper body, to a hospital in critical but stable condition.

A neighboring home was also hit during the shooting, which happened around 12:15 a.m. in the 400 block of North Clara in west Wichita. The victim and the suspect, who fled before police arrived, know each other, police spokesperson Brad Wright said.

“The incident started as an argument between the 38-year-old victim and the 21-year-old suspect while they sat in their vehicles outside the home of a 25-year-old Wichita woman,” a press release from the department read. “The argument continued after both men got out of their vehicles. The suspect pulled a handgun and fired multiple shots.”

The press release confirmed that the victim, suspected shooter and the homeowner all knew each other.

Wichita Police Community Response Teams, the K-9 Unit and patrol officers worked overnight to find the 21-year-old man. He was taken into custody at his north Wichita residence just before 7 a.m. on Sunday morning, the release detailed.

“Officers also located the suspect’s vehicle in the 100 block of S. Sheridan,” the press release read. “With assistance from a K-9, officers found a firearm in the area.”

The investigation is still ongoing, police said. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call detectives at 316-268-4407.
