16-year-old arrested, one hurt in shooting after sale turns sour in west Wichita
A 16-year-old boy was arrested in a Wednesday night shooting that hospitalized a 21-year-old man after the two met for a sale of items, Wichita police said Thursday.
The victim, a Wichita man, is in stable condition. Police are looking for a second suspect.
Police were first called at 8:35 p.m. after the victim drove himself to a hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper body.
“Preliminary investigation indicates the incident began as a meeting arranged through social media for the sale of items,” police spokesperson Rick Pena said in a news release. “When the two parties met, the victim was reportedly robbed by two suspects, who then fled the scene. The victim followed the suspects in his vehicle. In the 4100 block of North Tyler, the suspects fired at the victim’s vehicle, striking both the vehicle and the victim.”
Police found the suspects’ vehicle. The teen was arrested in the 6900 block of West O’Neil. Both the shooting and arrest were in west Wichita, about six miles apart.
The teen was arrested on suspicion of one count of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated battery.
