Wichitan could face up to 15 years for felony ammo possession

A Wichita man who previously faced federal firearms charges has been charged, this time accused of knowingly possessing ammunition that had traveled across state lines.

Michael Madden, 41, was first indicted in 2016 and convicted of two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm following a previous felony conviction. Ten years later, he faces similar charges and could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison if found guilty at trial.

Under federal law Madden, as a felon, was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammo.

On Feb. 26 and 27 in 2025, ammunition was found in Madden’s possession and seized, according to the indictment. It also asserts that he knew he was not allowed to own munitions and knowingly brought out-of-state ammo into Kansas. He has been arrested and indicted on two counts of felon in possession of ammunition.

The case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Madden entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment on March 9. He does not have a next court date listed.
