One man dies, another wounded in shooting at a Wichita business, police say
One man died and another was wounded in a shooting following a disturbance at a business early Saturday morning, Wichita police say.
The wounded man is expected to survive. No one is in custody, police said around 8 a.m.
Gunshot detection sensors alerted police about shots being fired at 3:13 a.m. in the 3900 block of E. 13th Street, which is just east of Hillside. The shooting happened at a business at 13th and Vesta.
A 911 caller also reported a “drive-by at 13th and Vesta,” according to Sedgwick County Emergency Communications scanner traffic.
Police also got a report of a shooting victim showing up at a local hospital.
Two men, 36 and 43, arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds, police said. The 36-year-old was pronounced deceased at 3:42 a.m., police said, and the 43-year-old was seriously injured but is expected to survive.
“Preliminary information indicates the victims were at a business in the 3900 block of E. Vesta when a disturbance occurred and shots were fired,” police said in a news release. “Police reported property damage in the area, but no other injuries.”
