Naked, bleeding woman who called for help in south Wichita found safe
A woman spotted naked, bleeding and calling for help in south Wichita early Sunday morning has been identified and confirmed to be safe, the Wichita Police Department said.
Her location came a day after a several-hour search was started and suspended before being resumed by the Wichita Police Homeless Outreach Team on Monday.
A search started around 6:20 a.m. Sunday in the 3700 block of South Hydraulic Ave. after a 911 caller reported seeing a naked woman yelling for help. The caller, according to Sedgwick County Emergency Communications 911 scanner traffic, said the woman looked “beat up” and probably needed an ambulance.
Wichita police officers, as well as members of the Wichita Fire Department, drones and a tracking dog searched the area, police spokesperson Brad Wright said. No one with injuries was found.
The search was then suspended, but members of the Wichita Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Team continued investigating, canvassing nearby the next day.
Through witness reports, Wright said, the HOT team was able to identify the woman. The team members offered her services, which she declined, Wright said, but determined that she is safe.
