Wichita man charged after TikTok post threatening to shoot ICE agents
A 23-year-old Wichita man has been charged after he made a TikTok post saying he would shoot U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents if he saw them in Wichita, federal court documents say.
In the one minute, 40 second clip from Jan. 22, Joaquin Hernandez also made threats to President Donald Trump, saying: “I’ll be going to the (expletive) White House and dealing with you my (expletive) self,” according to court documents.
But Hernandez’s charges are both related to the alleged statements against ICE. He was indicted Wednesday on one count of using the internet to make a threat to injure and retaliating against a federal official with a threat. The charges carry up to five and 10 years in prison, respectively, and each has a fine up to $250,000.
A detective reached Hernandez via phone and confirmed he was posting on TikTok about ICE “destroying families” before he hung up the phone, the court document says.
In the video, Hernandez said “it all stems” from Trump, court documents say. Hernandez said he wasn’t a violent person, but had had enough, and wouldn’t allow ICE in Wichita.
“If I see ICE activity in Wichita, Kansas, there’s gonna be hell to pay,’” court documents reportedly transcribing the video say. “So, if I see ICE, any ICE activity here, I don’t give a (expletive), I will shoot, I’m done. I will shoot you ... point blank, I’m done.”
Hernandez also said “I’m John Brown, (expletive). I am John Brown,” court documents say.
John Brown was an abolitionist in the mid-19th century who was executed after trying to start a slave revolt.
Trump has been criticized recently for increased ICE raids, including in Minneapolis where two U.S. citizens were killed by ICE agents this month.
