One person has been arrested after a home invasion and shooting Saturday night left one man dead and another critically injured. Police are still searching for a second suspect, who fled the crime scene on foot.

Wichita Police public information officer Rick Pena said the shooting was reported around 8:20 p.m. on Dec. 27 at a home in the 100 block of North Ash, just north of Wichita East High School. Inside the residence, officers found two adult men with gunshot wounds.

Both of the men, a 52-year-old and a 67-year-old, were taken to a hospital for treatment. The 52-year-old died at 8:51 p.m., Pena said, while the 67-year-old man suffered serious injuries.

A 54-year-old neighbor was arrested on suspicion of second-degree reckless murder in connection with the shooting.

A press release later published by the police department said a second person fled the home on foot.

Police think the incident was a home invasion, but the motive remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Wichita Police Department’s Investigations Division at 316-268-4407 or to leave an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
