Four people, three of them teens, were arrested after a bullet hit a 22-year-old Wichita woman inside her Old Town apartment Thursday night, Wichita police said Friday.

The woman was hit in the upper body. She was taken to a hospital by private vehicle and was treated and released.

Police determined the shot was taken from the Old Town Square parking garage and went through the woman’s apartment window across the street. Police were called at 9:42 p.m. The apartment complex is at 701 E. Second.

“Cameras in the area were used to identify a vehicle of interest,” police said in a news release. “Later that night, officers observed and stopped that vehicle near Mount Vernon and Washington.”

A rifle was found in the vehicle, police said.

Five people were interviewed, leading to the arrest of four of them: a 20-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman, a 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy. They face charges of aggravated battery, discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling and unlawful possession of a firearm by a juvenile, police said.

“This has to stop,” Chief Joe Sullivan said in the news release. “One reckless decision can change a life forever. Juveniles, or any person, who make the intentional decision to pick up a firearm and use it in the commission of a crime need to and will be held accountable.”

Police said the reason for the shooting is still under investigation.

Police have had problems in that parking garage in the past, including a July 2023 double homicide and a man grazed by a bullet in September 2024.
