A teenager arrested in connection with a deadly shooting at Wichita’s Sim Park last year has been charged as an adult.

He is scheduled to make a first appearance in Sedgwick County District Court on Tuesday afternoon on one count of first-degree premeditated murder in the Dec. 14 killing of 19-year-old David Hernandez-Cervantes. He is also charged with aggravated battery in the shooting of a 22-year-old man, aggravated assault and criminal use of weapons on that same date, court records show.

The teen previously faced the charges in juvenile court. He was 16 at the time of the shooting.

Wichita police have said Hernandez-Cervantes and the 22-year-old man were shot multiple times inside Sim Park, in Wichita’s Riverside neighborhood, around 12:55 a.m. Dec. 14, 2024. The teen was later arrested in connection with the shooting.

Police have said the trio all knew one another and that the shooting was not random but did not discuss a motive.
