Wichita woman arrested, accused of fatally stabbing her mother

WPD

A Wichita woman has been arrested after her mother was fatally stabbed Friday morning in southeast Wichita.

Wichita police responded to a stabbing call near the 1500 block of East Crowley, near South Hydraulic and Wassall, just before 8 a.m. Friday.

They said they were met in the street by a 47-year-old woman with cuts to her hand. Police Capt. Roderick Miller said they went inside the south Wichita residence and found an 80-year-old woman, Anita Avers, unresponsive in her bed and suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Both women, Miller said, were taken to hospitals in critical condition. The older woman died at the hospital. The 47-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of first degree murder, police said.

“Right now, we believe it was a domestic-type situation inside the residence,” Miller said.

Police are not looking for other suspects.
