A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a shooting Tuesday morning at a QuikTrip in southwest Wichita that left a 23-year-old man in “extremely critical condition,” Wichita police said Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery, criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied building and juvenile in possession of a gun.

The victim was shot multiple times in the upper body. A passerby performed life-saving measures until EMS arrived and took him to a hospital, where he underwent surgery, police said.

Police were called to reports of a shooting at 2:53 a.m. in the parking lot of the QuikTrip at Pawnee and Meridian.

“Investigators learned several people were involved in an argument that turned physical. During the altercation, the suspect pulled out a firearm and shot the victim,” police said in the afternoon news release.
