Is the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office calling you for money? Not a chance, they say

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of scammers calling them, posing as its employees.

The callers use real names of Sedgwick County deputies and may have personal information such as your name or address, which can be found online or from public records, said the Sheriff’s Office in a Facebook post Wednesday.

The fake calls could say that you missed jury duty, that you didn’t pay a fine or ticket, or that a family member is in jail and needs help, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will never ask you to pay anything,” said Branden Stitt, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office public information officer, in the accompanying video, “not for a warrant, not to avoid an arrest, and not for civil paperwork.

“We won’t ask you to send money through Bitcoin, Venmo, Cash App, gift cards or any other method. Not now, not ever.”
