A 21-year-old Wichita man has been arrested after a 57-year-old man on a bicycle was killed in a hit-and-run accident.

Daniel Forshey of Wichita died at the scene of the accident, which happened shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday at Murdock and Broadway. Forshey had been riding a bicycle east on Murdock when he was hit by a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500, which was also headed east, police said. Forshey was pronounced dead at 9:11 p.m.

The suspect was arrested in the 11000 block of East Kellogg, about 9 miles from the accident site, on suspicion of failure to stop at an accident that resulted in death, arrest records show. He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail at 3:12 a.m. Thursday, where he remained late Thursday morning.

The suspect initially stopped at a Jump Start near the scene before leaving, police said.

Police said witnesses and video footage helped identify the truck, which was spotted by officers on patrol. The Wichita Eagle does not identify suspects before they are charged in court.

“Thanks to video evidence and the relentless work of our officers, we quickly identified the suspect, located him, and placed him in custody,” Police Chief Joe Sullivan said in a news release. “Leaving the scene of an accident is not only unacceptable, it is inexcusable, and you will be held accountable.”
