Wichita man arrested after teen girl waiting on school bus is sexually assaulted
A 31-year-old Wichita man was arrested after a girl who was waiting on a school bus was lured into a vehicle and sexually assaulted, Wichita police said Tuesday.
Police were called Monday morning to the 1500 block of South Kansas. Police said the incident happened around 5:45 a.m. The first call to 911 was at 6:37 a.m. for a rape in progress, a Sedgwick County Emergency Communications supervisor said.
“The suspect lured the minor into a vehicle and committed the assault,” police said in a news release.
Arrest records say the man was arrested at his home, the same address where the reported assault occurred. Police would not confirm those details, citing the investigation.
The arresting charges involve a victim at least 14 but less than 16.
The man, who remained in jail Tuesday afternoon, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated indecent liberties with a child, indecent solicitation of a child and kidnapping, records show.
Police said parents and guardians should talk to their children about speaking to or entering the vehicle of a stranger and “encourage children to immediately notify a trusted adult and call 911 if they feel unsafe or encounter a similar situation.”
