Wichita police have arrested two people accused in the shooting death of a 62-year-old man at his home Sunday and are still searching for a teenage boy.

Terry Collins was gunned down in the front yard of his home in the 700 block of North Piatt, near Central and Grove, around 3:53 p.m. Sunday.

“Neighbors immediately began life-saving efforts until officers arrived,” Wichita police said in a news release Monday. “Sedgwick County EMS transported Mr. Collins to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.”

Police say he was shot in the chest after “a confrontation with two male suspects and a female suspect” who fled the area.

What caused the confrontation is still under investigation, Wichita police spokesman Andrew Ford said Monday.

“Officers deployed drones for aerial support, used a police K-9 team to track evidence and suspects, and relied on Flock camera technology to assist with locating the suspects. WPD’s Community Response Team and Community Policing Officers also responded to help with the investigation,” police said.

Their efforts lead to the arrest of a 20-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man. Detectives are still looking for a 14-year-old boy in connection with the shooting.

Police on Monday did not disclose whether any relationship exists between Collins and the suspects, citing an active investigation.

Police say witnesses provided “key information that helped officers and detectives move quickly to make arrests.”

“This was a tragic incident, but the swift response from our officers and the vital information shared by community members allowed us to bring those responsible into custody,” Chief Joe Sullivan said in a statement included in the news release.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Wichita police investigators at 316-268-4407 or Wichita-Sedgwick County Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Crime Stoppers tips are anonymous.
