A 31-year-old Wichita man shot by police Friday now faces kidnapping and other charges.

Daniel James Gabor was charged Tuesday with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery, interference with law enforcement and violating a protection order, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Branden Stitt said.

Gabor was shot twice in the arm by an officer. He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Stitt said.

Sedgwick County Emergency Communications received a call at 4:21 a.m. Friday and heard a woman screaming in the background.

“The open-line call was traced to a moving location, and Wichita police officers were dispatched to what sounded like an active disturbance without a specific location,” a sheriff’s news release said.

The phone call’s signal stopped in the 4600 block of West 37th Street South. Police responded to that area.

Officers found a vehicle stopped along the side of the street and saw a man assaulting a woman in the passenger seat. An officer fired two rounds and struck the man in the upper arm, Stitt said.

The man drove off with the woman still in the vehicle. He crashed in a construction zone near K-42 and West street shortly afterward. Sedgwick County EMS took the man to the hospital for his injuries. The woman, identified as his girlfriend, had minor injuries but declined treatment.

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the shooting and domestic violence incident as separate but related cases.

Gabor was released from the hospital on Saturday and was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail where he remains on a $250,000 bond.

Gabor has a 2024 conviction for two counts of domestic battery and one count of criminal restraint through Harvey County District Court.
