4-year-old boy, man shot as they were driving in north Wichita
A 4-year-old boy and a man were taken to a hospital after being shot in north Wichita on Sunday night.
Police were called at 10:45 p.m. to the 2600 block of north Park Place, near 25th and Broadway. They found a 4-year-old boy and a 32-year-old man with gunshot wounds. The man had been shot in his upper back and the boy in his back and buttocks, Wichita police spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said in an email Monday.
Both were taken to a hospital with critical but non-life threatening injuries.
The man was driving south on Park Place when someone in an SUV heading north opened fire. The man pulled into a driveway and sped up, crashing through several fences and a shed, Gupilan said.
The cause of the shooting is unknown. Police said they are following up on leads and that no one is in custody. Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call Wichita police detectives at 316-268-4407 or to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 316-267-2111.
