Police: Armed stranger robs 88-year-old man in his home

He couldn’t hear what the stranger at the front door was saying, so the 88-year-old man went to fetch his hearing aid.

While he was doing that, the stranger came into the house in the 1500 block of West 30th South shortly before 2 p.m. on Monday, brandished a handgun and demanded money and weapons, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. He fired a shot inside the house to emphasize his point.

The victim surrendered his wallet and the robber left, according to a police document on the case. The homeowner was not hurt.

Anyone with information about the robbery is being asked to call police investigations at 316-268-4646, Espinoza said. They can also call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or 911.
