A 39-year-old Wichita man was sentenced on Friday to seven years in prison for his role in a fatal shooting on Jan. 16, 2024, according to Sedgwick County District Attorney spokesperson Dan Dillon.

Yancy Hermosillo was sentenced after pleading no contest to aggravated battery in the killing of 35-year-old LaDonte Maurice Ostrander. Hermosillo had originally been charged with second-degree murder.

Video from around the time of the shooting in 2024 showed two people following Ostrander in the 900 block of South Broadway in Wichita, according to a probable cause affidavit. A second man had previously been arrested on suspicion of murder, but has not been charged. The case against that man is under review, Dillon said.

Shots were fired around 5:09 a.m. Two shots could be heard, followed by about nine shots two minutes later and then two more shots, the court document says.

Police found Ostrander found on the sidewalk shot in the left leg. He was taken to the hospital where he died.
