Four teens injured in apartment complex shooting, Wichita police say
Four teens — three girls and a boy, all from Wichita — were injured in a shooting Saturday morning at an apartment complex near the Keeper of the Plains, Wichita police spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said.
At least one building and multiple vehicles were hit by gunfire as well, according to Sedgwick County Emergency Communications scanner traffic.
Around 2:10 a.m., police in the area heard gunshots, which were coming from an apartment complex in the 500 block of West Central.
Officers found an 18-year-old woman lying in the parking lot. She had been shot in the upper torso and head, Gupilan said. She was taken to a Wichita hospital in critical condition, he said.
Two girls, ages 16 and 17, were also found in the parking lot with minor injuries from apparent ricochets, Gupilan said, adding that they were treated by EMS on scene.
“The 19-year-old male suspect was located inside a nearby apartment complex and was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to his lower extremities,” Gupilan said. “He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.”
Gupilan said it is still being investigated whether anyone else was involved and who shot who.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that a disturbance occurred among all involved parties prior to the shooting,” Gupilan said. “The incident appears to be isolated, as all individuals are known to one another. The circumstances leading up to the gunfire remain under active investigation.”
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 911, detectives at 316-268-4407, the See Something Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Callers can remain anonymous with Crime Stoppers.
