Reports from a 14-year-old, who said she had been abducted and sexually assaulted in north Wichita earlier this week, turned out to not be true, Wichita police said Friday.

The incident was reported to have happened around 10 p.m. on Monday near 19th and Grove, and the girl was taken to a Wichita hospital and treated for minor injuries.

“After careful follow-up, it has been determined that the reported incident did not occur,” police said Friday afternoon. “We understand the concern and emotional impact reports of this nature can have on our community. . . . Our Victim Advocate Unit is actively working with the juvenile to provide the support and resources necessary during this time.”
