A 21-year-old Wichita man was fatally shot on Friday night in the parking lot of a motel on South Broadway, Wichita police spokesperson Brad Wright said Saturday.

A 35-year-old man turned himself in at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and was booked into the jail on suspicion of first-degree murder, Wright said.

Officers in the area heard the shooting at 8:07 p.m. Friday at Afton Motel, 855 South Broadway. Martevion Davis had been shot in the torso and arms, Wright said, adding that Davis was driven to a Wichita hospital where he died at 10:46 p.m.

“There were multiple individuals at the scene who were later interviewed by Wichita Police Department Homicide Investigators,” Wright said in a news release. “At this point in the investigation, it is believed that Davis and the suspect were known to each other.”

This is at least the city’s seventh homicide of the year, according to reports from police. There were 17 at this time last year.
