A 33-year-old Wichita man was killed Thursday night in a shooting at a south Broadway motel “after a physical altercation with unknown males in the parking lot,” police spokesperson Andrew Ford said Friday.

Eric Lopez-Morales was staying at Frontier Motel, 1623 South Broadway, where the shooting happened.

Wichita police were in the area of Harry and Broadway on an unrelated call when they heard gunshots in the area at 9:47 p.m. Lopez-Morales was found was front of the motel with a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

He was pronounced deceased at 10:04 p.m.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call detectives at 316-268-4407, the See Something Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Callers can remain anonymous with Crime Stoppers.

This is at least the city’s sixth homicide so far this year, according to reports from police. There were 16 at this time last year.
