Woman arrested in fatal shooting of 7-year-old boy at southeast Wichita apartment
A 25-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the death of a 7-year-old boy who died after being shot in the torso Sunday at a southeast Wichita apartment.
The boy was identified Davion Gunter, Wichita police spokesperson Aaron Moses said Sunday afternoon.
The victim and suspect are acquaintances, Moses said.
She was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail at 9:40 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of first-degree murder and aggravated endangering of a child, jail records show.
Police were called at 12:26 a.m. to a report of a shooting at an apartment in the 3700 block of E. Ross Parkway, in the Planeview United neighborhood. The caller reported that someone had been shot and that a child was bleeding.
Officers arrived and found Gunter suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. He was taken a to the hospital where he died from his injury, according to Moses.
Seven other children and multiple adults were inside the apartment and were interviewed by investigators. The children were taken and placed into protective custody.
