15 dogs taken during north Wichita drug raid after signs of ‘possible dog breeding and fighting’
While executing a search warrant at a north Wichita home in relation to a drug bust, Wichita police seized 15 dogs and two cats after officers found “evidence of possible dog breeding and fighting,” Wichita police Capt. Aaron Moses said this week.
A 21-year-old Wichita woman was arrested on a few drug-related charges after police raided the home where she lives on Feb. 14 in the 2500 block of North Gentry. She was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail and posted bond that same day.
Moses said the investigation is ongoing, so police could only release limited details. He said police “located multiple kinds of illegal narcotics in large quantities.”
The animals were taken to the Wichita Animal Shelter.
“If we determine that the dogs were involved in fighting, we’ll work with experts who rehabilitate these animals, and they’ll likely go to a rescue. They would not be available to the general public,” Moses said.
“Our goal is to have them released to a rescue as soon as possible, but it depends on the owner relinquishing ownership to the shelter, or the need for us to work through a court process.”
