Three people were arrested and two suspects are still at large after a home burglary resulted in a SWAT standoff at a west Wichita home.

The incident started about 1 a.m. on Sunday when Wichita police responded to a report of a home burglary in the 1000 block of Ellis Street.

Officers learned that five suspects had entered a home armed with shotguns and handguns. The two homeowners said the suspects forced them into a bedroom at gunpoint and zip-tied them, Wichita police spokesperson Andrew Ford said Sunday.

“The [homeowners], who were familiar with the suspects, began searching for their stolen property after the incident,” Ford said in a news release. “One victim discovered that his phone and vehicle keys were missing and tracked their location to the 13600 block of West Nantucket, a residence believed to be associated with one of the suspects.”

Officers went the Nantucket address and attempted to communicate with the people inside. Someone inside spoke to the officers through a Ring doorbell camera.

Police repeatedly asked the occupants to come out; they refused. The SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called in, Ford said.

Eventually, one of the suspects walked out of the house and was taken into custody. Officers entered the home and searched it. They found two more suspects hiding in the attic. Police are still looking for two suspects.

The suspects are four men and a 19-year-old woman, Ford said Monday.

The 19-year-old woman, a 62-year-old man and a 33-year-old man were all booked into the Sedgwick Jail on Sunday night, jail logs show.

No one was injured in the burglary or the ensuing SWAT standoff, Ford added.

Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call detectives at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
